GPC Training Services

Polyanalytik offers introductory, intermediary, and advanced SEC/GPC training courses for analytical professionals, research & development teams, and academic research groups and students.Theory and equations used to calculate molecular properties typically measured by SEC/GPC are presented including number-average molecular weights (Mn), weight-average molecular weights (Mw), and z-average molecular weights (Mz).

Our experts present will provide general considerations for GPC users when choosing mobile phases, analytical temperatures, polymer standards, and GPC columns.

Intermediary courses provide a detailed understanding of the analytical methods used to characterize various molecular properties of polymers measured by SEC/GPC and their limitations. These analytical methods include:

  1. Conventional GPC analysis in which molecular weight averages (Mn, Mw, Mz), molecular weight distribution (polydispersity index, PDI), and concentration of polymers are measured relative to a calibration curve of polymer standards using the refractive index (RI) or UV-vis detector only.
  2. Universal GPC analysis in which true molecular weights (Mn, Mw, Mz), molecular weight distribution (PDI), intrinsic viscosity ([η]), hydrodynamic size (Rh), and Mark-Houwink parameters of polymers are measured in relation to a calibration curve of polymer standards using a combination of the RI or UV-vis detector and the viscometer.
  3. Triple Detection GPC analysis in which absolute molecular weights (Mn, Mw, and Mz), molecular weight distribution (PDI), intrinsic viscosity ([η), hydrodynamic size (Rh), Mark-Houwink parameters, radius of gyration (Rg), and polymer shape factor (Rg/Rh) are measured using a combination of RI detector, multi-angle light scattering (MALS) detector, and viscometer.
