POLYMER ANALYSIS

GPC/SEC ANALYSIS

Gel Permeation/Size Exclusion Chromatography (GPC/SEC)

GPC/SEC is a size separations technique employed to separate complex mixtures of macromolecules according to their hydrodynamic size. If the chemistry of the sample(s) is known, then
appropriate set up conditions such as solvent, solvent additives, experimental temperature, and column setup can be suggested.

This technique provides a wealth of information about synthetic polymers, biopolymers, oligomers, and small molecules including:
  • Molecular weights (Mn, Mw, Mz, Mp)
  • Molecular weight distribution (PDI)
  • Concentration
  • Cumulative Weight Fractionation
  • % Below or Above Target Molecular weight
  • Intrinsic viscosity (IV, [?])
  • Polymer chain conformation in solution
  • Copolymer, Conjugate, and Polymer Blend Composition
  • Radius of Gyration (Rg)
  • Branching Analysis
  • Hydrodynamic radius (Rh)
  • Aggregates Detections
  • Stability and Degradation
  • Trace Polymer Analysis
  • Failure Analysis
  • Xylene Solubles for Polypropylene and Ethylene Propylene Rubber
According to the application and true needs of customers, we employ various GPC instrument setups, configurations and detectors to obtain molecular parameters:
Conventional GPC/SEC
  • Detector configuration: RI or UV
  • Calibration curve of polymer standards of known molecular weight
Universal GPC/SEC-Viscometry
  • Detector configuration: UV or RI, Viscometry
  • Calibration curve of polymer standards of known molecular weight and intrinsic viscosit
GPC/SEC-MALS
  • Detector configuration: UV or RI, and Multi-Angle Light Scattering
Triple Detection GPC/SEC
  • Detector configuration: UV or RI, Multi-Angle Light Scattering, and Viscometry
Tetra Detection GPC/SEC
  • Detector configuration: UV, RI, Multi-Angle Light Scattering, and Viscometry
