GPC is a technique employed to separate complex mixtures of macromolecules according to their hydrodynamic size. The technique involves a mobile phase and a stationary phase comprised of porous particles. During separation, macromolecules with high degree of polymerization having large hydrodynamic size exclude from the column at earlier retention times while smaller macromolecules with decreasing degree of polymerization are retained in the porous particles and elute at later retention times.
